My dissertation focused on the development of digital technology and examined the ways in which the notion of originality has been questioned and challenged.

The images on this page visualise the ideas within my dissertation and are a current piece of work which I am still creating.

These digital images are centred on enhancing detail from canvases which I constructed using portrait images. I burnt and put these images through a food processor, mixed them with PVA glue and ink and painted them onto canvases.

I then re-photographed the canvases depicting a small detail from it and printed it on a large scale. By doing this I was exploring the idea of deconstructing the original image and the death of the image due to digital technology.

I was engrossed with the idea of physically destroying the images because due to digital advancements, manipulation and reproduction of images is abundant and this destroys the notion of originality. The work questions whether the development of digital technology has bought about the death of the image and originality.
